Organic Poverty Abounds

Coming from a background of poverty and too many meals of tuna casserole, my husband and I both share the same quality that I like to call “squirreling”. What in the world is that you ask? Well, what I mean by squirreling is that we, much like squirrels, gather our “nuts” together and store them away for a long time so that we are ready when “winter” comes., same with out lawn care regimen..we save it! We usually use organic weed killers, but that is not really the point here.

Because neither of us had much growing up, we have a tendency to do just that. We hold onto or store away things because in our mind we just don’t know when we will have nothing again and need them. Over the years we have been able to deal with our issue of “squirreling” but that is only because we have come to realize that there is indeed a greater being who already makes sure that the flowers and the trees are taken care of. Our sweet Lord will indeed make sure that we have all that we need. He did so when we were younger, we just didn’t realize it! He’s been there all along!

Saving Is What i am Doing

As the world moves closer and closer to so many people losing work and conserving their resources, I have begun to take a look at what I can do in my home to help save what we can. One way that I have found that I can save is in the grocery budget. Now, it is not necessarily a time conserving idea, but it does save me money! Each week I clip coupons from the Sunday paper. I then match my coupons with the sales ads that arrive in my mail box each week. I then plan my menu around what is on sale and what I have coupons for. Whatever “treats” I buy for my children also are determined by what is on sale. One week I bought six boxes of fruit roll ups. My children thought that they had died and gone to heaven because I never buy them. I had saved almost eighty dollars that week on my grocery budget and those treats were only sixty-nine cents a box after my coupon. Not too shabby!
